Parks, Facilities & Amenities
The City of Shorewood has six parks totaling approximately 100 acres. Shorewood residents enjoy the beauty of open space and wetlands and active recreation in over 101 acres of parkland. Everyone can enjoy the Lake Minnetonka Regional Trail (LRT) which runs through Shorewood and stretches from Hopkins to Victoria. Our parks offer picnic areas, playground equipment, tennis courts, ball fields, basketball courts, volleyball courts, walking trails and ice skating rinks.
Accessibility
All Shorewood playgrounds are compliant with the Americans With Disability Act (ADA) rules that were in place when the playground was initially installed. As playgrounds are rehabbed or reconstructed they are designed to today's ADA standards. This means that the playground surface materials are updated to be wheelchair accessible, the physical design of the structure is compliant, and adaptive or inclusive play equipment are added in each park.
- Manor Park was constructed in 2013 as a wheelchair-accessible play structure and the appropriate wheelchair-accessible surfacing connects the paths with the adaptive/inclusive swings.
- Badger Park was upgraded in 2019 to 2020. In addition to the new ADA-compliant play structure, restrooms, and trails, it also includes poured-in-place rubber surfacing, adaptive swings, and a merry-go-all.
- Silverwood Park was upgraded in 2021 to 2022 and includes accessible sidewalk connections between the parking area, play structure, and adaptive/inclusive swings. The City also added musical toys in and around the ADA-compliant play structure and new wheelchair-accessible surfacing. The exception in Silverwood is that approaches to the hillside slides are not ADA accessible as they are built into the existing slopes.
